They say it takes a few years to judge a draft, but it's been three years, so presenting the first round of the 2003 XFL Draft
1. Birmingham-Ken Dorsey, QB, Miami(FL): Has had some bad games with more frequency since X-Bowl run in 2004 but is pretty much the same winning QB he was at the U.
2. Dallas-Cory Redding, DE, Texas: Not quite the sack monster he was at Texas, but teams with fellow '03 draftee Demoine Adams to give Vipers a strong pair of ends.
3. Memphis-Cecil Sapp, RB, Colorado State: Has since moved to FB with the 'Ax. Is a huge key to the team's success running the ball.
4. Orlando-Seneca Wallace, QB, Iowa State: Was the starter from day one and went 6-3 as a starter in rookie year, but could be in his last go-round in O-town.
5. Jacksonville-Jamaal Green, DE, Miami(FL): Teamed with Chauncey Davis and Stanley McClover in fierce three-end rotation, but could seek big offseason payday
6. Las Vegas-Jason Gesser, QB, Washington State: Career has thus far followed college pattern; has improved every year, solid postseason in 2005 including X-Bowl win.
7. Washington-Terrance Martin, DE, North Carolina State: Underachieved tremendously in D.C. and lost starting job to Chad Beasley early in 2005, having a pretty good '06 in Birmingham so far.
8. Los Angeles-Sultan McCullough, RB, USC: Stepped out of shadow of older brother (and former Xtreme RB) Saladin busted on the scene with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in '03 and '04
9. New York (from San Francisco)-Brett Williams, OT, Florida State: When the Hitmen traded their first pick to the Demons in 2002, it ended up being all-XFL OT Marcel Howard of Iowa State, so the Hitmen returned the favor by drafting one of their own.
10. Pittsburgh-Jimmy Wilkerson, DE, Oklahoma: Signature move of "Worst XFL draft ever by one team"; wouldn't sign with Ironmen and instead signed with the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs, whom he's played with ever since.
11. Chicago-Kelley Washington, WR, Tennessee: Was a certifiable bust in first two seasons with 47 combined receptions, but rebounded with a big 2005 (48 rec, 6 TD) and is on pace for a repeat in '06.
12. Birmingham (from New York)-Vernon Carey, OT, Miami(FL): Left school early and remained in XFL Draft after extensive legal wrangling. Rededicated himself after subpar rookie year and has been anchor at left tackle since.
