2006 Coach of the Year Donnie Henderson addresses the media
AP- Kansas City, MO The man was brought in to light a fire under a dismal franchise, to make them competitive, and most of all - instill a sense of pride.
Mission Accomplished.
Donnie Henderson was named as the 2006 XFL Coach of the Year on Sunday, as the Monarchs completed an "outhouse-to-penthouse' season, finishing with an 8-4 record tied for league best. "This just goes to show what happens when we play as a team, Coach Henderson said,"To think that if we had one more win, we'd have home field throughout the playoffs, but we can't dwell on that. I said coming into this season that this was a 6-6 team and we bettered that by 2 games. I am proud of all of these guys in that locker room. This award is a testament for them."
When asked about the rumor that LenDale White got into 2 fights during practice this past week, all Henderson said was,"I made a decision early yesterday or late Thursday night to not start LenDale White partly as a result of the incident that took place on the practice field and some other things that led up to that. He did not start tonight because of disciplinary reasons. He is on track, he’s focused, and very anxious to get back to work Monday and play next week. For now, I told the team enjoy it for now, cause it's back to work on Tuesday. We have to be ready for anything the Enforcers throw at us."
In other Monarch news, the team has come to agreements with 4 players giving them contract extensions: QB Anthony Calvillo, LB Uyi Osunde (2 years), WR Thyron Anderson, and TE Teyo Johnson (3 years).
