Xtreme 28 Lonestars 13
ARLINGTON, TX--It might have not been as smooth sailing as it has been for Desmond Ridder either in the last few weeks or when he made his debut against the Lonestars in week 1, but the Xtreme defense took this one over and led the Xtreme to their eighth straight win.
Los Angeles spotted Dallas a touchdown on a Luis Perez pass to Javonte Williams, that would about wrap up the Lonestars' highlights as the Xtreme found the endzone on each of their next three drives, two Artavis Pierce touchdown runs sandwiched around a Ridder touchdown pass to Tyler Higbee, for a 21-7 lead late in the second quarter.
The gravity of the moment was not lost on Bob Stoops, who went for it more times than Jack Fox ended up punting (four to three), with Dallas converting twice. One of those however would only lead to a punt anyway. The Lonestars finished with 414 yards of offense, but didn't have much to show for it, exemplified by a missed opportunity in the third quarter after a Neville Gallimore strip-sack was recovered by Michael Jackson, but Dallas went just three and out before Tristan Vizcaino missed from 48.
Not that Los Angeles had a great second half themselves, in fact they neither crossed the 50 nor registered a first down until Amani Oruwariye picked off a Perez pass with Dallas going for the tying score late in the fourth and returned it 62 yards. Two plays later Ridder hit Higbee for 12 yards then on third down Ridder hit Michael Pittman for 22 and the go-home touchdown.
With the loss the Lonestars will once again finish with a non-winning season, not since going 9-5 in 2018.

Colonels 34 Enforcers 31
RALEIGH, NC--One might have had Super Bowl flashbacks, to a holding call that, to many, decided the game.
But much like James Bradberry that night, Godwin Igwebuike was honest when he acknowledged interfering with Chris Herndon as the Colonels were driving to get into field goal position. Dustin Hopkins drilled a 29-yarder with one second left, and a squib kick went nowhere, sending the Carolina Colonels to their first division title since 2009 with a 34-31 win over the Chicago Enforcers Saturday night at Carter-Finley Stadium.
Some questioned the decision to kick and not at least run a kneel-down. Kevin O'Connell explained in the postgame that with the Colonels' backup center (Trey Hill) in the game it wasn't a good idea to risk anything out of the ordinary happening. The squib kick went to Sadarius Hutcherson, who couldn't get anything lined up for the good ol' multi-lateral before the Carolina coverage team surrounded him.
But this was really a great back-and-forth affair. D'Andre Swift had 103 yards rushing and scored three touchdowns--his sixth, seventh, and eighth in just four games as an Enforcer. Kyle Trask threw for 361 yards and three touchdowns, but the biggest test of his moxie may have been taking the Colonels on a 98-yard drive in the third quarter, to which the 57-yard Jake Bailey punt that preceded it was the last one of the game.
There was even a hot-potato series of fumbles. Mike Brown hit Thaddeus Moss, forcing a fumble, then Allen Lazard recovered and lost it, allowing the Brown the chance to become the hero with (presumably) the game-sealing turnover. But as Brown dove on the ball he lost it, enabling Lazard to get back in for his second recovery of the same fumble, and keep the Enforcers' game-tying drive going. It would end with swift's third touchdown to tie the game at 31-31 with 1:07 left.
But the Colonels weren't about to settle for overtime on this night. Starting at the 20, Trask hit Jordan Howard for 23, then Tee Higgins for 14. A Howard run later Herndon broke open and had Igwebuike beat for possibly a touchdown, forcing the contact and putting the Colonels right there for the go-ahead score that would be the game-winner.
Gardner Minshew was 29 of 36 for 282 yards and a touchdown, a 32-yard bomb to Amon-Ra St. Brown late in the third quarter. St. Brown caught ten for 111 yards. Carolina racked up 451 yards as they got back on track following a home loss to Seattle last week.

Sharks 38 Capitols 14
COLUMBUS, OH--If it wasn't apparent that the Columbus Capitols are going to draft Will Levis as chances increase of them getting the #1 pick Sunday almost gave it away.
In what he humorously called an attempt to "spice things up", never mind that he's completed all of one pass longer than ten yards this season, Brian Flores started Nate Sudfeld on the opening series, and he completed a pair of short passes to Tarik Cohen before throwing incomplete to Darrius Shepherd to end his day. By the time sanity returned and Cardale Jones retook the helm Tampa Bay had gone down the field and scored a second time with little resistance. All on the way to a 38-14 whipping for the Sharks' fifth consecutive win to bring them back to .500 for the first time since week two while the work continues in Columbus.
Nyheim Hines scored the first two touchdowns, and Shermari Jones rushed for the first two of his career as the Sharks dominated a mostly drab first half which saw the Capitols fail to punch it in on three cracks from the 2. In the second half Columbus had a glimmer of hope when Jones took them 83 yards in ten plays, getting on the board with a short pass to Golden Tate. The hope lasted all of ten seconds, as Drew Lock hit a long bomb to Elijah Moore to put the Sharks back up 28-7.
Jones finished 20 of 29 for 251 yards with two scores and an interception, while Tarik Cohen had a 100-yard receiving day, and Tyler Badie got into the action taking a pass 38 yards for a score midway through the fourth quarter. Lock was 16 of 20 for 260 yards and a touchdown, with Moore catching five for 141--good for Tampa Bay's first 100-yard receiving game of the season.

Bolts 45 Hitmen 31
BIRMINGHAM, AL--It wasn't the Toilet Bowl, in fact it was quite the opposite, and minus their first two series which went punt and turnover on downs this is why Ken Dorsey came back to Birmingham. A.J. McCarron had as many touchdown passes as he threw incompletions against his former team, and in a game where defensive plays seemed to be few and far between it was another ex-Hitma, SaQwan Edwards, who forced an Amari Rodgers fumble that A.J. Klein picked up and ran back 45 yards to set up the final, game-clinching score as the Bolts rallied from a 14-0 hole and ran away from the Hitmen 45-31 at Protective Stadium.
After New York took a 14-0 lead on a 33-yard J.K. Dobbins touchdown McCarron went to work. On third and 1 he lofted a pass that George Pickens caught in stride for a 66-yard touchdown to get Birmingham back in it. Then as the Hitmen sputtered offensively McCarron threw touchdown passes to Ray Ray McCloud and Osirus Mitchell to put Birmingham in front. Brandon Aubrey hit from 22 to finish the first half scoring.
The Hitmen came back in the third quarter as Taylor Heinicke hit both his tight ends, Pat Freiermuth and Cole Turner, for scores, wrapped around McCarron's fourth touchdown pass, and second to Mitchell. A Graham Gano field goal tied it at 31 but McCarron was in a zone. On the next series he hit Mitchell for 34, overcame a holding penalty, and then hit Isaiah Likely for the go-ahead score from 21 yards out. Then it was the defense's turn.
Heinicke chipped away at the Birmingham defense, moving the sticks and were just across midfield near the two and a half minute mark when Rodgers coughed up a fumble after an Edwards hit and Klein rumbled all the way to the New York 19. Gus Edwards carried for nine yards, and then, with the Hitmen sold out for the run, McCarron executed a brilliant ball fake and hit Mitchell for the third time in his six-touchdown day. Mitchell also caught eight passes for 117 yards.
Heinicke, making his first start since week three against Carolina, finished 23 of 37 for 202 yards and three touchdowns. Dobbins went over the 100-yard mark for the fifth time this year.

Stampede 45 Mission 23
SAN ANTONIO, TX--The Stampede finally did two things: win consecutive games and get back to .500, neither of which have happened for a while.
While it's too late to make a push for the playoffs, these last two games are a reminder that, no the Stampede aren't lost without their all-XFL back Miles Sanders, who went on season-ending IR prior to the Dallas game, because they have an MVP candidate wearing #1. And play like an MVP he did, going 19 of 25 for 272 yards throwing and rushing four times for 41 yards, accoutning for four touchdowns total as the Stampede romped to a 45-23 laugher over the San Diego Mission Sunday at the Alamodome.
Not that the Mission didn't have any highlights, in fact a 55-yarder by Greg Zuerlein put them up first, and they tied it in the second on a touchdown pass from Chad Henne to Kelvin Benjamin. They also got a long scoring pass from Henne to Travis Benjamin near the midwya point of the fourth quarter as they tried to keep pace. That about wraps up San diego's highlight reel.
Hurts was on fire beginning with a short touchdown toss to Brevin Jordan that put the Stampede up 10-3, then after San Diego tied the game Hurts brilliantly managed the clock as San Antonio got into position for a score at the end of the half. But on second and 5 from the 17 Hurts just ran it in anyway as the crowd sensed it would be the score to begin to break the camel's back.
Then, after a San Diego three and out Hurts got the Stampede to the pay station in ten plays, and connected with Jordan for the second time and a 24-10 lead. His second rushing touchdown made it 31-10 in the fourth.
After the Mission got back to within two scores on Henne's long pass, they responded with a drive that would have made Joe Lombardi's grandfather proud, they ran nine of ten plays, and on the tenth Hurts hit Trey McBride for the touchdown. The exclamation point came one play later, when Cody Brown tracked down a bad snap and raced in for a score, although Henne would add a late touchdown pass to Levine Toilolo for some stat-padding, finishing 23 of 33 for 284 yards and three touchdowns.

Monarchs 34 Glory 10
KANSAS CITY, MO--It would be easy to say that Bailey Zappe isn't ready with the Washington Glory season now reduced to a must-win next Sunday night, cause it's not exactly like Kyle Allen came in and lit it up. The Monarchs were doing the lighting up, and clinched their tenth straight division title in doing so with a 34-10 pasting Sunday at GEHA Field.
The Glory defense staked their claim early and tried to keep Washington in it, the highlight being an impressive chasedown by Jayron Kearse to prvent a breakaway touchdown by David Montgomery. That ended up huge as two goal line stuffs and a false start penalty followed by an incomplete pass resulted in a short Nick Folk field goal. Domenik Eberle hit for 52 to tie the game, but one would get the feeling the Glory were just trying to create some room on the Titanic.
Zappe threw his first pick with the Glory driving, as his throw was high and picked off by Levi Wallace, who ran it back 48 yards. There was a temporary reprieve for Washington three plays later when Case Keenum underthrew Trevon Wesco and was picked off by Trevon Diggs, but the Glory went three and out and Daniel Whelan, trying to avoid KaVontae Turpin, kicked short. It didn't matter as Turpin took it on the run and nearly went for six, just being tripped up by Cameron Goode. Two plays later Keenum hit Demarcus Robinson for the score and at that moment if it was ever possible to hear deflation you probably did on the Washington sideline. They knew.
With a roaring crowd sensing 14-0 and another division crown Zappe fumbled the snap, which Nick Allegretti dove on to keep the drive going. They got some relief when Jacques Patrick took a screen pass 26 yards for a first down, but then in another 'I'm coming' moment as if Hall of Famer (and former Monarchs assistant) Deion Sanders had taken over the PA, Zappe was picked off by Xavier McKinney and it was back on the road again. This time Keenum dumped it off to D'Vonte Price for the six and a 17-3 lead. Folk hit from 36 to push the lead to 20-3 at halftime.
Zappe's day was done after he threw a pick-six, with Devante Bausby doing the honors. Allen didn't fare any better, after nearly losing the ball on a strip-sack by Chris Odom he was picked off by Wallace, who returned his second pick 37 yards and Keenum hit Robinson for the second time to push the lead to 34-3.
Colin Kaepernick played the fourth quarter, completing one pass in three attempts for nine yards. Kevin Harris' 55-yard touchdown run made it a bit more bearable, but the Glory head home for a must-win rematch against Chicago with unwanted questions at quarterback after Zappe and Allen combined to finish 13 of 28 for 115 yards and five interceptions.
The Monarchs' five interceptions took them one past the 16-game record for interceptions by a team, the 1986 49ers had 39 in a 16-game schedule, the Monarchs have 40. The record is 49, set by the 1961 San Diego Chargers in a 14-game schedule.

Reign 38 Stallions 24
SEATTLE, WA--If nothing else the Seattle Reign have done what was thought to be impossible after they were run off the field in their first two outings of the season, at worst they'll be .500--which is a much better return for Mike Zimmer this time around than it was going 1-11 in 2004.
Garrett Gilbert keeps showing that he deserves to be in the MVP conversation even not playing until week six, throwing three touchdown passes and Jamaal Williams ran for another, his fourth straight game with one, as the Reign pulled away for a 38-24 win Sunday at Lumen Field over the St. Louis Stallions.
With a gambler rep in his five-game run as coach Anthony Becht raised eyebrows this time for not gambling, with fourth and 5 at midfield down by seven around the midway point of the quarter he sent Joseph Charlton out to pin Seattle deep. The plan worked to a degree as the Reign ended up on their own 5 and two plays later faced a third and 5. But Gilbert hit Marvin Jones for nine to keep the drive going, and Max Borghi, getting playing time after Seattle put Alex Collins on season-ending IR, had two big runs although he fumbled twice. Greg Dulcich jumped on the first and Borghi would be credited with a fumble recovery for a touchdown on the second.
But the Stallions had two chances to jump on the hosts and couldn't do it. The first came at the end of the half after Matthew Wright tied the game with a 54-yard field goal. Travell Harris fumbled the ensuing kickoff to put St. Louis in a great spot, but Becht playing more conservatively this week backfired when, after running the clock down instead of take a shot or two at the endzone, Charlton mishandled the snap and cost St. Louis points. The second came early in the fourth quarter after Williams was stuffed on fourth and goal at the 1, followed by a three and out. Gilbert then hit John Ross for the go-ahead score.
St. Louis scored on three of their first four drives, taking a 7-0 lead on a Jonathan Taylor run, then 14-10 midway through the second on Jarrett Stidham pass to Gary Jennings. In the third quarter they answered on Stidham's second touchdown pass, a 22-yarder to Romeo Doubs to tie it at 24-24. But Gilbert would not be denied in his third straight 300-yard outing, nor would the Reign, who were out to prove their week 14 shocker in Carolina was no fluke, topping the 400-yard mark for the fourth straight game.
Drew Lewis, the former Seattle-area high school star who moved over to middle linebacker this week with Te'von Coney being put on injured reserve, recovered the Harris fumble and nearly a had second big play as he ripped the ball away from Borghi as he was running in for a touchdown, but Borghi stayed with it and scooped up the ball after Lewis couldn't haul it in, taking it in for the game-clinching score. Rage 34 Demons 32
PALO ALTO, CA--With the Orlando Rage officially out of the playoffs, one wondered how they'd show up for work on Sunday night.
Concerning Damien Harris, right how he started. Harris, who began the season on a tear with three straight 100-yard games, picked it back up, with 175 yards and three touchdowns. Trey Sermon ran for a pair of scores as well, including the game-winner with 1:21 left, as the Rage beat the Demons 34-32 in Palo Alto.
On that play, Brad Kaaya banged his wrist, and instead of sending Feleipe Franks out to run a two-point play, it was Lirim Hajrullahu kicking the extra point, putting it in the hands of the Orlando defense to come up with the big play, and that they did as just 10 yards away from a potential game-winning field goal, Davon Godchaux sacked Kyle Lauletta. Then Lauletta fumbled as he prepared to spike the ball, forcing the Demons to use their final timeout and leave them only a hail mary, which fell short.
Orlando was one play away from a controversial loss when Brad Kaaya hit Deebo Samuel for 11 yards on fourth and 2 from the San Francisco 36 inside of two minutes, but an inadvertent whistle blew the play dead. Instead, Harris got the ball and rumbled for 27 on his final carry, with Sermon scoring on the next play.
The Rage rallied from an early 20-7 deficit on Sermon's first touchdown with 18 seconds left in the first half, then a muffed punt by J.J. Taylor led to the go-ahead score, an eight-yard Harris run to put Orlando up 21-20. The Demons went 93 in 10 plays to go back on top in the final minute of the third when Lauletta hit Trevon Grimes for the touchdown.
In the fourth, both teams traded touchdowns as Harris' third score put Orlando back up, followed by Tyrion Davis-Price's score. The Rage rushed for 265 yards, while Lauletta threw for 294 yards and four scores.
San Francisco has lost four of six, and their lead in the Walsh has fallen to a game.
