2006 offseason preview
Qb- Only expect Adrian McPherson and Rod Rutherford to remain at the start of training camp next season. The team will cut Hamilton and Redman. Expect them to do some shopping for a 3rd string qb. McPherson is the starter w/o any questions
RB- This position will get a lot of looks in the offseason. If Renaldo Works can prove that he can keep up his numbers that he put up and the end of the 2005 campaign expect him to enter 2006 as the starter. The team would like to shop around Marion Barber and
hopefully get some value out of their 2005 draft pick. Jarrett Payton will fight Works for the starting job. Joe Hall will remain as the teams lead FB. Marion Barber might be groomed at this position if a trade is not worked out.
WR- Kevin Youngblood proved he can play with the big boys this year leading the offense. Youngblood's performance in 2005 has forced Quincy Jackson out of Washington as he looks to be a likely cut. Rookie Mark Bradley stepped up when needed and will be looked upon next year to provide more. Kenyon Hambrick will be brought back to be the #3 wideout if all goes well. Expect the team to bring in someone who can produce as this group was the weak spot of the team in 2005.
TE- This position is in desperate need of a playmaker. Terry Jones and Darnell Sanders are not what the team is looking for in a Tight End. Expect one of them to remain as they shop for a new starter at this postion.
OT- Char-ron Dorsey is a star and Max Starks is a stud in the making at OT. With these two the team is very comfortable heading into 2006. The team brought in Brandon Winey to provide depth all along the line in case of an injury. Rob Pettitti possesses a lot
of potential which the team hopes to see in the near future or his career in the Nation's Capital might be short lived. Kevin Sampson and Sam Wilder are expendable but the team sees something special in Wilder.
OG- This position is under question after 2005. Both Qasim Mitchell and Teag Whiting left something to be desired. They are both in their prime but fell flat. Look for some soul searching in the front-office to replace one or maybe both of these players. Jason Schwab
is a potential free-agent that will most likely come back to provide depth. Him and Lamar Bryant have a lot of upside and Mitchell and Whiting replacements could come from within.
C- World class C Mike Keathley is a potential free-agent. He will be the main focus on trying to resign. There are very few options behind him so resigning him will be key. His backup, Kevin Bailey is just an emergency player, nothing more.
DE- Javor Mills surprised some last season with the numbers he put up but did not surprise anyone of the coaches. The team saw his potential from day one and he is now the star of this defense. Terrance Martin has a lot of talent and will remain as the starting DE
on the other side of the line. He will fight it out w/ Chad Beasley for that spot as he is being moved outside to make room for rising star DT Jonathan Babineaux. Cedric Pittman and Nautyn McKay-Loescher will remain and provide some depth at this stocked position.
DT- With star Isreal Raybon and rising star Jonathan Babineaux in the middle on D, the Glory would like to challenge any other team to try to compare to these two. That is how much confidence they have in these guys. Moving 2005 starter Chad Beasley outside is proof of that. Ahmad Childress might be cut in favor of some new blood on the DL.
OLB- 2005 will be the last year of seeing Dane Krager in a Glory uniform. He will be cut in the off-season in favor of youngster Darryl Blackstock. Blackstock finished the year as the starter on the outside and will remain there in 2006. On the other side is the very talented Paris Lenon. The only backup listed on the roster is Aries Monroe so look for the team to go out and bring someone else in.
MLB- The team is set in the middle of the linebackers with Mike Smith and TJ Hollowell still under contract. The team is still awaiting for Hollowell to step up and show all of the potential that everyone talked about when he came into Washington.
CB- Ronyell Whitaker was the addition that this defensive back core needed last year. With Dyshod Carter and Antonio Perkins and Whitaker, the team finally has 3 DB's that they can rely on to make plays. Fred White will be the dime corner back for next year as the team has decided to let Todd Howard go.
S- Lamont Thompson came in and did exactly what was asked of him putting Jack Brewer's career in DC in question. He is a free agent and will most likely be let go because of his age. The team is set at the other safety postion with Glenn Sumter and Donnie Caldwell.
ST- Resigning punting leader Dan Hadenfeldt will be the biggest priority of the offseason. Martin Gramatica left something to be desired after the team signed him with big hopes. Steve Suter came in and did a job as the kick and punt returner. That's the reason he was brought
in and that is where he will remain in 2006.
