Rumor has it (XFL Draft 2006, Senior Bowl)....
• Notre Dame tight end Anthony Fasano, who could have gotten another year of eligibility if he'd chosen to, now looks to be a 1st or 2nd round pick.
• In somewhat of a surprise look for Michigan DE / OLB LaMarr Woodley to leave school early for the 2006 XFL Draft. He will be an interesting guy to watch for 3-4 teams.
• The best bet to make a trade in round one this year is the Chicago Enforcers. Look for them to move up or down at least once.
Now on to sightings and observations from Mobile.....
(from NFLdraftcountdown.com)
As always don't take these observations as locks that these teams are going to take the players, but they can sometimes give indications as to which positions they might be focusing on.
(Senior Bowl - Day 1)
The Rage had a prominent presence with both GM Daniel Robinson and head coach Mike Jones in attendance. Afterwards Chicago and Carolina were the most active in terms of having their scouts interview prospects. The Enforcers were seen talking to David Pittman, Daniel Bullocks, Maurice Stovall, Joe Klopfenstein, John Torp, and Daryn Colledge. Meanwhile the Colonels had Gabe Watson doubled-teamed with two scouts and also spoke with Clint Ingram, Jonathan Lewis, Mike Bell, and Jerome Harrison. Washington chatted with Charles Spencer at length as well as Dusty Dvoracek (who the Rage also spoke with), and Abdul Hodge as well. San Francisco was heard asking Victor Adeyanju if he had any experience at linebacker and seen mingling with Tamba Hali as well. Washington seemed to be interested in running backs Jerome Harrison and Mike Bell, and the Hitmen were seen with Darrell Hunter, Martin Nance and Demetrius Williams while the Demons cornered Jonathan Lewis.
(Senior Bowl - Day 2)
NORTH - Once again scouts scampered onto the field following practice to talk with prospects and here is a rundown of who I saw each team with: Los Angeles had a major presence and they were seen talking to Joe Klopfenstein, Martin Nance, Davin Joseph, and Charles Spencer. The Dallas Vipers gave a lot of attention to Gabe Watson while Orlando chatted up Charlie Whitehurst. Chicago spoke with Maurice Stovall, Abdul Hodge, Dominique Byrd, Babatunde Oshinowo, Davin Joseph, Victor Adeyanju, and Demetrius Williams. The Hitmen were seen with Mathias Kiwanuka, Michael Robinson, the Predators with Chad Greenway, the Glory with Dominique Byrd and the Ironmen with Tye Hill, David Pittman, Mike Bell, and Michael Robinson. Meanwhile Kansas City showed interest in Gabe Watson, Davin Joseph, Mark Setterstrom, Anwar Phillips, Michael Robinson, and Deuce Lutui. Memphis was also making the rounds and was seen with Brian Iwuh, Jon Alston, Davin Joseph, Darryl Tapp and Nick Mangold. The Colonels talked with Cedric Humes. Carolina was also extremely active and others they were seen with include Maurice Stovall, Jason Avant, Derek Hagan, and Terrence Whitehead. Finally, Jacksonville had two scouts with Anthony Smith, Washington was with D'Qwell Jackson and Lawrence Vickers, and both Memphis and Las Vegas spoke with Darrell Hunter.
SOUTH - The Chicago Enforcers paid a lot of attention to Marcus McNeill and had him cornered for a very long time, while also speaking with Ryan Cook, Roman Harper, Kelly Jennings, Kamerion Wimbley, Freddie Roach, and DeMario Minter. Carolina was active once again and I saw them talking to Darrell Hackney, Albert Toeina, Andre Hall, Cedric Griffin, and Greg Blue. Eric Winston was seen chatting with the Hitmen and the Xtreme, Gerris Wilkerson of Georgia Tech talked to Carolina and Pittsburgh and Orlando spoke with Mark Anderson (at length) and Thomas Howard. Travis Williams was pretty popular, drawing attention from Washington, Detroit and the Hitmen, Marcedes Lewis spoke with Los Angeles, D.J. Shockley with Orlando and the Hitmen mingled with Max Jean-Gilles and Jesse Mahelona. Kansas City spoke with Jon Scott and DeMario Minter for a bit while the Glory were seen with Tim Jennings and the Xtreme with Kamerion Wimbley and Max-Jean Gilles.
(Senior Bowl - Day 3)
NORTH - One of the few underclassmen in attendance was Florida wideout Chad Jackson, who was making the rounds with his agent just like Troy Williamson did a year ago. Tom Coughlin was also a prominent presence and focused heavily on the defensive backs. In fact, as soon as we were let on the field to talk to players after practice Coughlin was heard asking where Anwar Phillips was (Funny how shortly after, he was outta Dallas!). The Hitmen were seen talking to Darrell Hunter, Michael Pittman (notice a trend?) and Chad Greenway. The Hitmen made a beeline for Terrence Whitehead right after practice and also interviewed Davin Joseph, Darryl Tapp and Chad Greenway. Maurice Stovall was popular and met with Pittsburgh and Las Vegas, the Preds spoke with Babatunde Oshinowo, Washington with Demetrius Williams and Jacksonville with Victor Adeyanju and Charlie Whitehurst. San Francisco was also very busy chatting up Mathias Kiwanuka, Mark Setterstrom, and D'Qwell Jackson while Washington was seen with Jerome Harrison, Daniel Bullocks, and Ryan O'Callaghan. As they have been all week the Kansas City Monarchs were very active, focusing their attention on Will Blackmon, Victor Adeyanju, Mark Setterstrom, Michael Pittman, Darryl Tapp and Anwar Phillips. Finally, Los Angeles mingled with Dusty Dvoracek, Lawrence Vickers, and Ryan O'Callaghan while Chicago continued their hard work by having three scouts meet with Gabe Watson along with Deuce Lutui, Jason Avant, Ryan O'Callaghan, and Michael Robinson.
SOUTH - The Kansas City Monarchs couldn't have shown any more interest in Jonathan Scott, cornering him for almost the entire time between the end of practice and when he had to catch his bus. The Monarchs also had four scouts with Pat Watkins, two with Kamerion Wimbley and were seen with Marcus McNeill, Marcedes Lewis, and Mark Anderson as well. The New York Hitmen were seen with T.J. Williams, DeMario Minter and showed a ton of interest in Marcus Hudson, with Romeo Crennell even walking him off the field. Brodie Croyle spoke with Los Angeles, Kansas City and Chicago while the Enforcers also chatted up Eric Winston, Mark Anderson, Cody Douglas, Cedric Griffin, and Tim Jennings. Memphis went linebacker heavy and mingled with Freddie Roach, Travis Williams and Gerris Wilkinson while Los Angeles talked with Thomas Howard and the Rage with Ben Obomanu. Finally, the Carolina Colonels were seen with Spencer Havner and Will Allen while Washington showed interest in DeMario Minter.
(Senior Bowl - Day 4)
NORTH - With so few in attendance there is not a whole lot to report in terms of observations but here are a few. George O'Leary and a couple of 'AX scouts paid a lot of attention to the defensive backs while Pittsburgh and Orlando had the largest presence of personnel that I noticed. The Detroit Mustangs had a long talk with Will Blackmon and walked him off the field, Washington spoke with Davin Joseph at length and was also seen with David Pittman and Nick Mangold. The Hitmen were seen with Nick Mangold, the Enforcers with Clint Ingram, and Kansas City chatted up Charlie Whitehurt for a bit. Finally, I spoke with Charlie Whitehurt's dad David (who played in the NFL with Green Bay from 1976-1983) and he said Charlie is still not totally healthy and they aren't exactly sure when he will be 100%.
SOUTH - After practice there were a lot of player interviews taking place on the field, but none with scouts. Instead it was all television and print crews chatting up the prospects and the only team I saw speaking with a player was Washington, who had Georgia safety Greg Blue cornered for a long time.
