Much thanks to Branca and the boys at XFL Insider who filled in for me while yours truly took two much needed weeks off out of the country. Word of advice - make sure your passport is updated if you are leaving the country. Anyway one week to go in the regular season and here is where we stand. The six playoff squads are determined, but all spots, yes ALL six are up for grabs. Saturday night's Memphis/KC match will go a long way to determine spots. On to the rankings for this week....
1. New York (10-1): If this game is locked up by halftime, back QB Jordan Palmer could get some extensive 'game-situation' reps.
2. Dallas (8-3): Great comeback against the 'Ax. But now they must hope that Memphis doesn't repeat the same result this week. Ironic, ain't it?
3. Kansas City (9-2): Ironic, Part II - Monarchs victory gives them division, and maybe a third shot at Dallas with a trip to the X-Bowl on the line.
4. Memphis (7-4): 'Ax choked away 5th seed last week, can they recover to hold off a motivated Monarch squad with a division title at stake?
5. Seattle (8-3): Outside shot at the 2 seed, but need help from MEM. Reign are a legit title contender either way. Must take care of LA though.
6. Washington (6-5): Rivera's future a little brighter than Chow's now. Look for them to challenge Rage for division title next year.
7. Orlando (7-4): News flash - Stanton's out for a bit. Can Michael Bishop lead Rage back to the X- Bowl?
8. Carolina (5-6): Think Chow'd rather be at Southern Cal right now? Rumor has it if he's let go after the season, the NFL's Titans will give him a call.
9. Jacksonville (5-6): Palko recovered nicely after Monarchs game. Bulls have something to build on. Finishing at .500 would give team hope for '08.
10. Detroit (4-7): Cedric Houston, we hardly knew ye. Much luck on your future endeavors.
11. San Francisco (4-7): Talk about prophetic (see last week). Bonds' slump seems to have the same effect on the Demons.
12. Los Angeles (4-7): LA scored first, too bad LV scored all the rest. Jones-Drew needs help.
13. Chicago (4-7): One thing we're pretty sure of - Harrington is definitely not the answer.
14. Pittsburgh (3-8): Here's hoping the I-men don't roll over for the Lonestars in Dallas.
15. Las Vegas (3-8): Champs have work cut out for them in '08 - starting with LB, RB, and QB. (Gesser, yes, I'm looking right at ya!)
16. Birmingham (1-10): Umm, I could say this is the ultimate "David vs.Goliath" matchup....but who are we kidding? See ya at the Draft!
