Raleigh, NC- In a press conference that had been delayed since Monday, Norm Chow announced his resignation from the position of Head Coach for the Carolina Colonels. The following is a transcript of his announcement, and a short statement from Colonels Owner and General Manager Daniel Casey.
Norm Chow: " I want to start out by apologizing for not making this announcement sooner. I realize that the original plan was for me to have a press conference on Monday, but I decided to take more time, as I have had to make a very difficult decision. That decision is that I will resign as Head Coach of the Carolina Colonels, effective immediately. I informed Mr. Casey of my decision earlier today, and I feel that it is the right move. The main reason that I gave my resignation is that I believe that I no longer have the capabilities to provide the right type of leadership that the Colonels need. Of course, the fact that we have never had a winning season is something that has caused me much angst, and was also very influential in my decision to resign. I can honestly say that I have enjoyed my time as Head Coach in Carolina. I want to personally thank Mr. Casey for giving me an opportunity to be a Head Coach in the XFL. I want to thank the coaches, players and staff of the Colonels, as they were the most important factor in any success we had, not myself. Last, I want to thank the great fans in Carolina, and especially in the Raleigh area, as y'all are without a doubt some of the best fans I have ever encountered. As I leave here today, I want the entire Colonels organization to know that I wish you nothing but the best in all future endeavors, and always know that I will be tuning in during the spring and summer to watch. Thank you.
Colonels Owner Mr. Daniel Casey: First, I want to thank Coach Chow for his great service to the Colonels. I realize that the Colonels would not be where we are today if wasn't for his leadership and guidance. I don't think people fully realize just how challenging it was for Coach Chow to be the Head Coach of the Colonels. It's never easy for an expansion team during their first year, yet Coach Chow led the Colonels to 5 wins during that opening campaign. Unfortunately, some things have happened since then that have led to us having this press conference today. I'm gonna wrap this up by saying that all Colonels fans across the world should be eternally grateful for the job that Coach Chow has done, and I personally want him to know that if there is anything I can ever help him with, that he shouldn't hesitate to contact me.
