Kansas City sends to San Antonio: Their first (15th overall), second #2 (31st), third (47th), and fourth (63rd)
San Antonio sends to Kansas City: The first overall pick in the 2010 XFL Draft
For the second time this offseason, the Monarchs and Stampede are trade partners. This trade also means that the two worst teams in the league in 2009 will not pick 1-2, and only San Antonio will draft in the first round--moving down to 15
The Monarchs lose three picks and will be out of the third and fourth rounds, but it's a small price to pay for a team who was in the X-Bowl last year. The possibilities are much more intriguing: Will the Monarchs, who have made the #1 overall pick twice (2004 and 2006, they also dealt the #1 pick in 2005 to Memphis) make it three Trojans and select Taylor Mays, perhaps the best player who didn't hear his name called this past Thursday night? Will they decide Jimmy Clausen, and not Colt Brennan, is the heir apparent to Anthony Calvillo? Or will they go for the arguably best receiver available in Golden Tate (whom the Monarchs have had their eye on for months)? By shedding three picks the Monarchs also give themselves some cap relief.
The downside for the Stampede in trading out of the #1 spot is that they'll probably be out Terrance Cody, whom all the sudden seems destined for Pittsburgh at #5. Upside is the Stampede are now back in the second and fourth rounds, picks they traded for Devard Darling and Carl Nicks. Also, don't be surprised to see the Stampede draft Cam Thomas at 15
