1. Los Angeles: Jake Locker, QB, Washington
The #1 pick is all about impact. See KC five years ago taking LenDale White with the #1 pick, setting them up for a monster run since. The Xtreme could only be so lucky after a 1-13 debacle.
Really the Xtreme's biggest need is for a playmaking QB that can help the offense stay on the field for more than three plays at a time, and maybe discover the endzone once they get deep into opposing territory.
2. Chicago: Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M
With the Enforcers switching to a 3-4 they get an ideal 3-4 pass rusher who should thrive playing alongside perennial all-XFLer Patrick Willis.
3. Orlando: Mike Pouncey, C-G, Florida
With the success of older brother Maurkice in the NFL and the Rage' plan to take apart an aging OL (Brian Rimpf is gone, and most likely Brett Williams will follow), Pouncey is the pick here. Although he can play guard, he seems destined to anchor the middle for Orlando.
4. Birmingham: DeMarcus Love, OT, Arkansas
After the Bolts struck out in their efforts to land a playmaking WR in free agency, the natural assumption would be that the Bolts go for one here. Also when new head coach Russ Grimm won an X-Bowl title three years ago he did it with a first-round wideout (Limas Sweed) that made plenty of impact. But Grimm, an OL by trade, would jump at the chance to land an OT the quality of Love, a brawler who would replace the declining Travelle Wharton.
5. Memphis: A.J. Green, WR, Georgia
Losing Steve Breaston temporarily deprived the Maniax of their all-XFL combo (Breaston and Brandon Myles), but only temporarily by nabbing Green.
6. Seattle: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska
In a perfect world, the Reign would trade up to the top spot and pick Locker but instead, with all of three CBs on the roster and none really starting quality, the Reign go with Amukamara here, with the special bonus of adding name quality to their secondary (Syd'Quan Thompson, Akwasi Owusu-Onsah, Husain Abdullah)
7. New York: Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA
The Hitmen also might look at the OL here, but they just took an OT last year (Phil Loadholt) and might give one of their holdovers a shot instead. Looking for a young NT to eventually replace Kwakou Robinson, they could go for Kenrick Ellis, but with character questions they might be able to nab him in later rounds. Meanwhile Ayers would be another excellent pick to add to a tremendous stable of playmaking OLBs.
8. San Antonio: Aaron Williams, CB, Texas
You couldn't help but feel that last year was something of a missed opportunity for the Stampede, missing out on Sergio Kindle, Terrance Cody, and Colt McCoy (although still recovering from a fatal concussion, Kindle may see as much action in 2011 as Stephen Strasburg, and the other two aren't really of concern). But with Myron Lewis moving over to FS to take over for FA departure Eric Weddle, the Stamps will use the 8 pick on Williams, a cover that has been compared to fellow former Longhorns Cedric Griffin and Aaron Ross, and as Seattle and Las Vegas will tell you, the less Jason David, the better.
9. Las Vegas: D.J. Williams, TE, Arkansas
On a team that already boasts offensive weaponry such as LeSean McCoy, Dexter McCluster, and Peyton Hillis, this is almost unfair
10. Carolina: Brandon Harris, CB, Miami(FL)
The Colonels' #1 wish obviously is to get healthy, maybe go OL and grab Gabe Carimi. Other than that, getting younger in the secondary is the plan.
11. Dallas: Quinton Carter, FS, Oklahoma
Tough luck, the Lonestars would really love Aaron Williams for obvious reasons, but their in-state rival beats them to it. Their pursuit of Fred Bennett in the FA period showed they were serious about an upgrade at CB, but finding someone to pair with all-XFL SS DaJuan Morgan is good enough in the interim.
12. Detroit: Greg Jones, ILB, Michigan State
Unbelievably as it sounds, the Mustangs aren't any worse off at WR after trading Vincent Jackson, so they'll look to LB, where they lost Larry Foote and draft a homestate product to back up Frantz Joseph, and fight for the starting job.
13. Pittsburgh: Martez Wilson, ILB, Illinois
The Maulers missed D'Qwell Jackson at the end of the season and in the playoffs, so they add a reinforcement in the form of Wilson, the Illni's leading tackler.
14. Kansas City: Mikel Leshoure, RB, Illinois
This was almost a given once the Monarchs decided to part ways with all-time rushing leader LenDale White. Reminiscent of White, Leshoure is a bit high-risk high-reward himself.
15. San Francisco: Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburgh
Nate Davis amazingly had a breakout season with an oft-injured Anthony Gonzalez and big-play possession (but not a #1) guy Danny Amendola as his top two receivers, the possibilities could be endless in adding the WR that the Demons would love to get for their third-year star.
16. Washington: Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin
Carimi would be a good candidate for a wide-open RT position after Marc Colombo struggled through an injury-plagued season in 2010 (missing the X-Bowl) and the Glory chose not to re-sign him.
