A posit of what could happen in the eve of the XFL Draft makes for some very different moves than the previous two versions.
1. Washington (from San Francisco)-Antonio Callaway, WR, Florida (previous pick: Kyle Lauletta, QB, Richmond (San Francisco))
What if the Demons sour on Lauletta at the last minute or just decide they want a boatload of picks and decide that the payoff of staying with Lauletta isn't worth the return? It's a good question, last year's top pick, Samaje Perine, was a 1000-yard rusher as a rookie, for Mike Jones in Orlando while Lauletta wouldn't be playing unless something goes horribly wrong, as it did for Jones last year with the unrelated Cardale Jones, forcing the elder Jones to play Brad Kaaya well before he wanted to. After striking it rich with Dede Westbrook a year ago, the Glory would seemingly add to Westbrook and Marvin Jones, albeit with a much more volatile wildcard in the oft off-field troubled Callaway.
2. Carolina-Brian Allen, C, Michigan State (no change)
3. Las Vegas-Kyle Lauletta, QB, Richmond (previous pick: Kyzir White, S, West Virginia)
And the risk of such a move for the Demons would come into play here, although the Outlaws, clearly looking for Bryce Petty's successor, might value Lauletta the most, here they go.
4. Kansas City (from Orlando)-Nyheim Hines, RB, North Carolina State (previous pick: Da'Shawn Hand, DL, Alabama (Orlando))
Having lost Zach Zenner in the expansion draft and set to lose James White the Monarchs all the sudden might move off Dorance Armstrong as a late-first if they have the chance. Moving extra picks is always risky, but the Monarchs haven't seemed to falter over the years finding their guys, so Hines, who would take over both Buck Allen's role as well as Brandon Tate's spot as the return man, is a natural fit.
5. San Francisco (from Washington)-Ian Thomas, TE, Indiana (previous pick: Mark Walton, RB, Miami(FL) (Washington))
The Demons trade down and get Thomas, far and away considered best tight end in this class at 6-4 260, and with the overall package that's sure to remind Mike Jones of Tracey Wistrom of years past.
6. Orlando (from Pittsburgh)-Da'Shawn Hand, DL, Alabama (previous pick: Anthony Averett, CB, Alabama (Pittsburgh))
We'll make it simple and say that the Rage merely took their picks from the Monarchs and gave them to the Ironmen, which means they essentially get nothing for moving down but they still get their guy in Hand, which Kris Richard may be ready to shut down the entire draft to get.
7. Los Angeles-Kenny Young, LB, UCLA (previous pick: Jordan Whitehead, S, Pittsburgh)
And after all that, the Xtreme keep Young at home, which ideally they'd like to do with Corey Nelson a free agent and pair him up with another UCLA product in Jayon Brown.
8. Dallas-Anthony Averett, CB, Alabama (previous pick: Rick Leonard, OT, Florida State)
Despite Jaylen Watkins' sudden big-play capability the Lonestars would clearly like to not have to give a four-year deal to a two-year producer. Averett's speed and coverage skill make him a good target if he's available.
9. Los Angeles (from New York)-Keke Coutee, WR, Texas Tech (previous pick: Will Richardson, OT, North Carolina State (Carolina))
The Xtreme will almost certainly take a receiver regardless of whether they keep both first-rounders. Coutee and DaeSean Hamilton are the favorites, with Coutee a possible replacement for DeAnthony Thomas in the slot and in the return game.
10. San Antonio-Josey Jewell, LB, Iowa (previous pick: Josh Sweat, DE, Florida State)
Jewell is great at reading plays and would strengthen an already solid pair of inside linebackers with Blair Brown and Wesley Woodyard, he would be seen as a future replacement for the latter.
11. Pittsburgh-DaeSean Hamilton, WR, Penn State (previous pick: Taron Johnson, CB, Weber State (Kansas City))
The Ironmen offense completely went to hell after losing Antonio Brown with four games left. Hamilton can fight Andre Holmes for the #2 job right away.
12. San Antonio-Taron Johnson, CB, Weber State (previous pick: Dorance Armstrong, DE, Kansas (Kansas City))
This makes the second straight mock that Johnson sneaks into the back of the first. The Stampede will also look at Nick Nelson here but will be scared off by an injury (suffered a meniscus tear during pre-draft workouts) and his penchant for holding, prevalent among the current starters Jude Adjei-Barimah and Justin Bethel.
