We continue our draft series by looking at offensive linemen
Jawaan Taylor, Florida: Can play on either side, but is the best fit at right tackle, where he's a load in the run game. Could be first tackle off the board.
Prediction: New York. The Hitmen would automatically increase their win output by a game or two if they can get Taylor on top of signing Trent Brown, granted it only pushes them from four to six but it gets the ball rolling. Taylor would remind the Hitmen of Phil Loadholt, a mauler at right tackle whose career was cut short due to injuries in 2015-16.
Cody Ford, Oklahoma. Right there with Taylor as far as blocking ability, Ford could conceivably play anywhere among four of five positions on the offensive line. Was switched from guard to tackle last year following Orlando Brown's departure to the NFL.
Prediction: Dallas. Some team who has a gaping hole at left tackle could try to plug him in, the Lonestars would be obvious as while Bob Stoops originally recruited Ford to OU as a guard, he could also move Daryl Williams to left tackle and slot Ford in on the right. Stay tuned.
Dalton Risner, Kansas State: Risner can play tackle, guard, and center and if he gets kicked inside it won't be be cause he can't play on the outside. Not many great pass rushing prospects in the Big 12 but did account well for himself vs NFL first rounder Montez Sweat.
Prediction: Carolina. The Colonels drafted three offensive linemen last year with the hope of them all being starters in 2020, throw that all out as Risner could be plugged in at any one of three spots, although it looks more likely he'd be a candidate for either guard spot.
Connor McGovern, Penn State: Projected by some scouts at center, it might be worth a look for a team to try him there, though he may be susceptible to stunts and not make proper line calls. Has great technique and blocked for several great RBs at PSU, so left guard seems to be his position.I
Prediction: Chicago. As much as we'd like to see St. Louis grab him and possibly have Connor McGovern (Penn State) play alongside Connor McGovern (Missouri), the Enforcers pick him up here as a replacement for longtime guard Ramon Foster.
Dru Samia, Oklahoma. Solid resume as four-year starter at OU even though it didn't end necessarily well, with an uninspiring game against Alabama and then a so-so Senior Bowl. Right team may be everything at the end of the day.
Prediction: New York. If the Hitmen can land both Brown (free agency) and Taylor (draft), then they could afford to experiment by getting Samia downdraft. They could kick Brandon Shell inside to guard and have Samia back him up for a year, a team with good tackles will be the key.
