Monarchs 34 Demons 20 (Kansas City, MO)
Case Keenum threw three touchdown passes, two in the first quarter to end the Monarchs' six-game first quarter touchdown drought, and Xavier McKinney took an interception back 59 yards for a score in piling up a 28-6 halftime lead before coasting to an easy victory
The Monarchs signed a pair of former NFL first round picks, Le'Veon Bell and Cordarrelle Patterson, during their bye week to revive a strangely dormant first quarter offense that only scored their first points of the opening 15 in their last game--a pair of Nick Folk field goals. Mission accomplished as while the pair combined for just three touches in their debut (and Patterson also returned a kickoff 27 yards) their presence helped nullify an opportunistic defense led by Justin Houston, and also racked up 146 yards rushing on the stout San Francisco run defense
Even without Geno Atkins, the Monarchs made life miserable for Kyle Lauletta just as his other three trips in. Lauletta threw for 334 yards, much of it coming with the Demons having a mountain to climb, but was just 23 of 41 with two touchdowns and two interceptions and was sacked three times. The Monarchs also held San Francisco to a season-low 58 yards on the ground
NEXT WEEK: SF (4-3) at TB 4/11; KC (6-1) at DAL 4/10
