Lonestars 27 Demons 3
ARLINGTON, TX--The Dallas Lonestars have caught fire, and the San Francisco Demons are a dumpster fire. Luis Perez threw three touchdown passes and the Lonestars pass push pelleted the Demons' offensive line, bringing down a returning Kyle Lauletta nine times in a 27-3 romp at Choctaw Stadium Saturday.
With a scoreless tie late in the second quarter after Evan McPherson's first miss of the year, the Lonestars put together an eight-play 75 yard drive, most of it featuring rookie bruiser Javonte Williams, who touched the ball four times on the drive, including powering through the defensive front for 27 to set up a touchdown pass to Tommylee Lewis on the next play. That opened the floodgates as Lauletta, who had already been downed three times to that point, was sacked twice more, giving the Dallas the ball back. A quick five play drive got the Lonestars a quick score on Perez' second touchdown pass of the game, hitting Bennie Fowler.
McPherson had San Francisco's only points of the game, a 37-yarder in the third quarter. But that was answered by a long pass from Perez to Albert Okwuegbunam to begin the next drive which led to a long Tyler Rausa field goal to make it 17-3. In the fourth quarter, Perez' third touchdown pass (to Donovan Peoples-Jones) and another Rausa field goal finished the scoring.
Lauletta completed 15 of 21 passes for 165 yards and was intercepted once--by ex-Demon Holton Hill, but the Demons' protection issues resulted in them having only 166 yards of offense. Joe Thomas had three sacks, and Ronnie Perkins and Kamalei Correa, playing for the injured Austin Bryant, had two each. Williams had his first career 100-yard game with 107 yards on 15 carries. The Lonestars have won three straight since Perez replaced Brandon Silvers.
